July 5, 2001 Derry, NH Town of Derry Announces Pond Road Bridge Re-opening  The Town of Derry along with CLD Consulting Engineers Inc of Manchester and Bayview Construction Corporation of Portsmouth are pleased to announce the re-opening of the Pond Road Bridge, located just downstream from Beaver Lake Dam.  The bridge was closed in April to be reconstructed to meet current loading criteria and allow removal of the posting restriction of 15 tons. CLD designed a new precast concrete deck to be installed on the existing abutments (end supports). The precast deck was furnished in sections, allowing for installation in a single day, rather than several weeks required for a cast-in-place deck. Re-use of the existing supports also reduced construction time and kept all work out of the water, eliminating environmental impacts. The guardrail and paving was completed on June 25th, allowing road opening a week prior to the July 4th holiday, a goal date for the project. Final project cleanup will be completed in July. The completed project design reduced the project cost over initial estimates by $80,000. |
