| Project 5 - New Rochester Road Sidewalks
|
| Located on New Rochester Road, beginning at Weeks' Crossing and continuing on the east side of the street for a distance of approximately 3500 ft. to the corner of NH Rte 108 and Long Hill Road, the project entails the construction of a 5 ft. wide paved sidewalk. The sidewalk will serve to and through an area of moderately populated single family homes, multifamily apartment structures, office and commercial uses, including banks, restaurants, and convenience and hard goods stores.
This section of major arterial roadway is located in the northern high traffic section of the urban compact and does not currently have a pedestrian facility. Pedestrians are forced to walk along the edge of the traveled way or on partial paths that have evolved through the years. A new sidewalk will enable the neighborhoods' residents to use walking as a safe and alternative form of transportation to and from businesses along Central Avenue and the Hospital.
The new sidewalk will promote a safe pedestrian route for both adults and children bound for these destinations and for transit users bound for local bus stops along New Rochester Road and Central Avenue. The new sidewalk will connect with the sidewalks completed as part of the Weeks' Crossing project as well as those associated with recent commercial development along New Rochester Road.
