| Project 2 - Back River Road Signal
|
Signalization of the Back River Road intersection at NH Route 108 is a critical project that has been a high priority for the City for over 10 years. The intersection experiences severe congestion at peak hours, with Back River Road traffic having difficulty entering Route 108 at those time periods. The near proximity of the Mill Street signalized intersection with the Spaulding Turnpike Exit 7 ramp results in queuing of northbound Route 108 traffic across the Back River Road approach, blocking traffic movement. The intersection capacity is further compromised at certain times of the day by the presence of the nearby Dover High School, the new Dover Middle School and the South End Fire Station, as well as recent residential developments adjacent to Back River Road. Through the CMAQ program, CLD Consulting Engineers will provide an engineering study and design of a new traffic signal at the intersection, which will be coordinated with the existing signals at Mill Street, Locust Street, and the Spaulding Turnpike Ramps. Also, a new right turn lane will be added to Durham Road to allow traffic to make a right turn from Route 108 to Back River Road.
