Dover Transportation Enhancements

| Project 1 - Durham Road Shoulders
| The project consists of shoulder widening, bicycle route signs, and pavement markings to dedicate 4' wide bicycle shoulders on both sides of the road for 1.6 miles of Durham Road (NH Rte 108) from Back River Road to the Madbury Town line. South of Bellamy Road there will be no changes in the existing pavement, since there is currently adequate shoulder width. Between Back River Road and Bellamy Road, sections of Durham Road have been widened to accomodate new bicycle shoulders. Bicycle route signs and "Share the Road" signs have been installed, as well as bicycle symbol pavement markings in the shoulder to denote the route.
This route will connect Dover with the Town of Durham and the University of New Hampshire, and, as such, has been designated the "Wildcat Trail," named after the UNH mascot. It is the first of Dover's bike routes to receive a named designation and the beginning of a program that will identify and designate official Dover Bikeway routes throughout the City. Also, in a cooperative effort to provide consistent route signage along Route 108, the Town of Madbury Board of Selectmen have appropriated funds for the extension of bicycle route signs into Madbury.
